SUNDAY
Dennis and Jamie will pick you up from
your pre-arranged arrival point and drive you in our comfortable
minibuses back to the house and our usual 'Champagne Welcome'. There
will be plenty of time to settle in and look around the property
before Jamie gives his traditional introduction over cocktails.
Dinner will be with Ellie at the house.
MONDAY
The Contessa Francesca
Papafava dei Carraresi has kindly offered to tour us around her
estate,
on which our house is situated;
this includes an amazing grotto below the upper Villa. Her family
have owned Frassanelle since the 1200s and are directly related to
the Carrara, the original Lords of Padova. Lunch will be one of
Ellie's popular buffets. After the 'lunch recovery program' we will
head into Padova for the 'passeggiata' evening stroll and the
Contessa will show us around her incredible town palace. Dinner
will be at a delightful restaurant close to the house.
TUESDAY
Off to Vicenza, famed for
its superb architecture - particularly of Palladio. We will visit
Palladio's Teatro Olimpico, Europe's oldest continuous theatre. The
pretty drive in along the Bacchiglione river will take us past
Palladio's 'La Rotonda', the inspiration for Jefferson's Monticello.
Our suggested lunch will be at a simple country restaurant that we
all love! The late afternoon will be free to enjoy the estate
before Dennis offers a Prosecco tasting. Ellie's dinner will follow.
WEDNESDAY
We will drive directly over
the causeway into Venice where a boat will whisk us to the Rialto area
for the market and some known and lesser-known sites. The best way to
taste Venetian food is at the bacari 'tapas bars' around the market
and we have some interesting characters to meet and tastes to
experience. We will continue our look at some off the lesser-known
sites before returning to Ellie for dinner.
THURSDAY
We will drive into Padova
for the morning including a visit to the world renowned Scrovegni
Chapel famed for Giotto's masterful series of frescoes, a turning
point in the history of art. We will also visit Padova's wonderful
market along with other sites. Back to Ellie's buffet lunch and a
hike in the beautiful Euganean hills behind us or, if you prefer, a
round of golf on the estate's course. We will drive into the hills
through the vineyards to our dinner restaurant.
FRIDAY
A day in Verona, one of
Italy's most beautiful cities: from Romeo and Juliette to the
fabulous Roman Arena - Verona has it all plus shopping to boot!
Verona is situated at the base of the Alps within a bend of the
Adige river surrounded by the vineyard of Soave and Valpolicella
wines Dennis and Jamie have come to appreciate. Back at a good time
to pack and enjoy Ellie's farewell dinner.
SATURDAY
Dennis and Jamie will
drive you to your pre-arranged departure point after breakfast.
The above is
